Open to Winter 2027 co-ops

Joseph Mills

Software Engineer · AI/ML · Calgary

I build software end to end, from a de-Googled Chromium browser to multi-agent AI systems and cellular IoT alerting.

About

Who I am

I'm a fourth-year student looking for a Winter 2027 co-op in software engineering, with a strong second interest in AI and machine learning.

Most of what I build starts as a problem I want solved: a browser without the tracking, a translation pipeline that keeps names consistent across a million words, a sensor that texts me before a pump house freezes.

I like owning a project from the first commit to something people can install or rely on, including the unglamorous parts like packaging, signing updates, and alerting.

SHIPPED SOFTWARE

The Boring Web Browser

Chromium · C++ · Python · Windows

  • CHROMIUM 153
  • RELEASE 1 SHIPPED
  • SIGNED UPDATES

A plain, private Windows browser: Chromium’s engine, de-Googled with ungoogled-chromium, plus a small patch layer of my own for blocking, privacy defaults and a calmer UI. I handle the build pipeline, the Windows installer and the signed update channel, and Release 1 shipped on Chromium 153.

AI · MULTI-AGENT

beyonder

LangGraph · Qdrant · FastAPI · Gemini

  • ~89% TERM CONSISTENCY
  • GLOSSARY-RAG
  • SPOILER-AWARE

A multi-agent LangGraph system for translating Chinese web novels and answering questions about them. A glossary-RAG layer over Qdrant locks terminology at every translation call, reaching about 89% term consistency on a 500-term gold set, and retrieval is spoiler-aware so answers never leak future chapters.

IOT · CLOUD

WaterTempProject

ESP32 · AWS · Go · C#

  • CELLULAR
  • SMS + VOICE ALERTS

A cellular freeze monitor for a farm pump house. An ESP32 reports temperature to an AWS backend written in Go and C#, which escalates from SMS to voice calls if the temperature keeps falling and nobody responds.

HACKATHON · AGENT

calgary-watermain-agent

IEEE YP Industry Hackathon 2026

  • IEEE YP 2026
  • REPAIR RANKING

An agent built for the IEEE YP Industry Hackathon 2026 (Energy and Infrastructure Case 8) that ranks Calgary water-main repairs using the City’s open data on main breaks and the public water-main network.

Beyond

Away from the keyboard

Reading web novels
